The London Requiem features inscriptions which Benjamin found written on gravestones in cemeteries and churchyards across London.
The ten movements on this album are produced and mixed by Paul Kendall (ex Mute records) and performed by The Rebel Chorus.
The work also features the Balanescu String Quartet and guest vocals from Barbara Windsor, Matt Lucas, Tanita Tikaram, Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span), Katina Kangaris, Ian Knauer, and playwright, Sir Arnold Wesker, who sings the words written on his mother’s grave.
This limited-edition CD comes with a 16-page, souvenir booklet, featuring photographs of the performers, and the work’s full libretto, alongside specially-commissioned artwork by Janie Ranger.
The CD was officially released on September 29th, 2012, to coincide with the live premiere of the work, in Abney Park Cemetery, London at 7pm on the same evening.
