Four Premieres
Dec 17, 2012

2012 has been a fabulous year for Benjamin. He had 4 live premieres of 4 separate works. Songs About The Weather, an hour-long oratorio, was performed by the Fleet Singers at Hampstead Town Hall in early June, followed a month later by the premiere of This York, part of the Ebor Vox festival which celebrated the 800th anniversary of the city of York gaining its charter. 600 singers performed Benjamin's composition whilst processing through the streets of the city.

September saw the premiere, at dusk in Abney Park cemetery, of his major work, The London Requiem, a performance which was broadcast online as part of The Space. You can see the film here as well as a great deal of other interesting packages about the work.

The CD of The London Requiem, which features The Rebel Chorus, the Balanescu Quartet, Barbara Windsor, Tanita Tikaram, Matt Lucas, Maddy Prior and playwright, Sir Arnold Wesker, is now available.

The year ended with a performance of Benjamin's River Boat Song, for the first time ever by a choir, in this instance the fabulous Sounds Fun women's choir in York. This particular song is a setting of a Lewis Carroll poem.
